Falster Farm on Pasture 365™ Beef is exactly what the name implies, beef cattle reared on grass NATURALLY 365 days a year! Our animals are not raised in confinement, fed antibiotics and hormones, or force fed scientifically formulated rations for the singular goal of profit. Our animals graze on lush green pastures of the Post Oak Savannah of East Texas. We seek slow and low stress growth to achieve tenderness and pleasing flavor by rotating the stock from one pasture paddock to the next providing them with fresh new growth grasses, fobs and clover at regular intervals. In the rotation each paddock is able to “rest” for (+ or -) 21 days allowing fresh new growth and recovery for the next rotation. Large ruminants have the ability to harvest and digest all the energy and protein they need in a setting that has the least possible stress on their bodies and their temperament.
There is simply no better feed or any better atmosphere possible for these cattle to grow. That is why we don’t need antibiotics or hormones to control disease or stimulate rates of gain. Our cattle have no disease issues because they are not stressed and yet they will average about 1.5 pounds per day natural weight gain. Along with fresh well water, our cows are provided free choice: salt, crushed rock minerals, dehydrated sea weed from Norway, and raw apple cider vinegar (not from concentrate.) By the way I eat these same supplements.
Nancy and I believe, first and foremost, that a bovine animal was put on this earth to function as a grazing animal. The further we deviate from the grazing principal, the more problems we create for the cow, and for the consumer. Unfortunately, the government devised industrial agricultural model has created a fossil fuel dependent machine and has ignored God’s natural and original purpose for the solar powered bovine creature.
There are two types of cattle today, corn (grain) cattle and grass cattle. Our many years experience has taught us that grass cattle will work in a corn environment; however corn cattle are not sustainable in a grass environment.
Grass cattle are high in essential vitamins and amino acids such as Omega 3 while corn cattle are lacking in these and in fact are typically carcinogenic to the consumer. Since shortly after the big push for the consumption of Corn and Soy in its various forms, such as corn sugar, the degradation of the average consumer has denigrated to include never before known maladies and obesity of monstrous proportions.
We make our grass-fed beef available on the terms of our cost basis. Our costs basis is what we call low-imput. It is regenerating and honestly sustainable. Frankly, that is why we don’t need antibiotics or hormones to control disease or stimulate rates of gain. Our cattle have genetic resistance – they have no disease issues because they are:
- A closed herd – we don’t buy sale barn cattle, shoot um up on antibiotics; then, fatten um up on grain boosted with hormones. In fact, our herd has been a consistent source of the highest quality seed (breeding) stock, for customers seeking our level of quality — literally, from all around the world.
- A no-stress animal husbandry protocol that pushes no one, yet the calves (because of their superior genetics and environment) will average about 1.5 pounds per day natural weight gain; and,
- Just like our family table, we put our money in the food we eat, not medicine. Every ruminating animal on this place is provided with free choice Morton salt from Grand Saline, crushed Redmond Trace Minerals from the great salt lake, Maxi-Crop dehydrated Sea Weed from the North Sea, Real Apple Cider Vinegar and Diatomaceous Earth.
You have probably heard or seen documentaries that animals raised in commercial feedlots are confined in large areas and fed formulated rations comprised of mostly bi-product feeds left over from the human food industry. Bi-products like potato chip meal, cookie meal, pizza crust, pig blood meal, brewer’s trash, cotton seed lint, just to name a few. Exercise is very limited and the feedlot environment creates social stress on the animals for a survival of the fittest atmosphere. Totally driven by profit, these operations, by design, keep the cattle on the edge of acidosis (sickness) and gaining as much weight as possible on the cheapest ration available. Here’s a simple question – which environment will produce naturally flavorful, clean beef?
What you may not know is that “Certified Organic Beef” must be raised with feeds that are certified organic, which, while it excludes antibiotics and hormones does not exclude grains like soy or corn. What you may not know is that the Organic Labeling laws do not require grass, and the cows are often raised in confinement with no guarantee of a stress free environment. Organic certification refers only to what the animal was fed and does not make any claim about how the animal was raised. The animal’s welfare does not need to be a top priority and they are often fed rations high in organic grain potentially creating acidosis and what I consider to be an unnatural life for cattle.

• Beef Raised on pasture will have four to five times more CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) than beef raised primarily on grain. CLA is proving to be one of the best natural defenses in preventing cancer. Research is showing that CLA is effective as an anti-carcinogen at much lower rates than originally proposed.
• Beef raised on Pasture 365™ has two to four times more Omega-3 fatty acid than feedlot raised beef. Omega-3 is one of the good fatty acids and plays a role in the prevention of heart disease, cancer and arthritis. Omega-3 fats must come from your diet, as your body cannot make them. The cow converts green grass into Omega-3. When cattle are put on a ration high in grain concentrates they lose their source of Omega-3 fatty acid.
• The meat from Pasture Raised 365™ beef is up to four times higher in vitamin E than meat from feedlot cattle. Again, coming from the green grass to your table.
• Beef raised on Pasture 365™ dramatically reduces your risk of E. coli contamination. E. coli bacteria thrive in the rumens of animals that are acidodic. High grain diets and confinement feeding inherently has poor animal hygiene creating the potential for the spread of this nasty germ.

• Even though the cost of our pasture raised and clover finished beef for all cuts including steaks, roasts and burger is higher than what you will pay for an average grade of beef in the local supermarket, your freezer will be filled with vacuum packed delights to last you the whole year with no worry about what to pick up for tonight’s meal.
• Do you know where your beef is sourced? Even though it might be “certified organic grass fed”, that doesn’t mean that it is sourced locally in any way… nor does it guarantee humane treatment of the cows. I’ve seen labels on ground beef from a grocery store in Tyler, TX and found that the beef was sourced in South America. There isn’t anything wrong with this per se … but if I’m gonna spend money on good meat, I’d prefer it to be local.
Finally, the way we raise Falling Star Brand Cattle takes longer. It will generally take us 20 to 30 months to get the nutrient density in your beef order versus 14 months of hi-protein fed feedlot animals.
